ELECTRONIC DATA INTERCHANGE (EDI) - The transfer of business documents electronically from one company's computer system application to another (such as invoices and purchase orders) using standard, industry accepted, message formats.

APPLICATION PLANNING INTERFACE – (API) - Any material, product or program that is designed for an end-user to use.  In this case it’s a computer program, designed specifically for you.
